DPL products was founded by Dr. Wesley S. Wilborn, a board certified Dermatologist and world renowned expert on hair and scalp disorders. Dr. Wilborn was a fellow member of the American Academy of Dermatology and was a Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Ga. Dr. Wilborn earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from South Carolina State College and his M.D. at Meharry Medical College and has applied both studies to helping patients with skin and hair disorders.

A pioneer, Dr. Wilborn launched the first mainstream hair and skin care product line formulated by a Dermatologist’s for Afro American’s. He began creating and marketing dermatological products as early as 1981. His first venture in the industry began with a hair care brand called BACK ALIVE Hair Care, where he was co-founder. In 1989 Dr. Wilborn broadened his scope of health and wellness products and established his own skin and hair care brand, Dermatologist’s Products Limited (DPL). The creation of DPL was inspired by Dr. Wilborn’s experiences as a Dermatologist as he found that there were no products effective enough to heal the skin and scalp problems of his patients.
